A call to arms

Well my plans for Iron Kingdoms via Legend of Anglerre have been scuppered by lack of players. But I still want to run something, even if it is just to shake the image that I come up with a new campaign idea every few months and never get it off the ground. After seeing this (scroll down to D&D in the Elemental Chaos part 1) and this (again scroll down) I have the horn to run a massive “classic” D&D game where its all big damn heroes on big fucking adventures.

Even though its a month from release I’d set it in the Dark Sun universe and just go mental with set piece battles and shit. But of course Im again short on players, on the other hand D&D 4th edition is supposedly an excellent game for introducing new players to role-playing. The other games Im interested in running are a superhero game using (but possibly not set in) the new Mutants and Masterminds rules found in the DC Adventures game, a Final Fantasy inspired epic using Anima (because a new book came out for it and I like shiny shit), a short Eclipse Phase mini-campaign and possibly something using LOA or Starblazer Adventures. So why dont I?

Well there are two main obstacles that I need to surpass. The first, and most difficult, is to assemble enough players. Ideally I’d like four or five, but I’d run it with three, two at a stretch. But recruiting players isnt really super easy, Im not a huge fan of gaming with random people and even if I was, where would I meet them? Ive checked out all the online player finders and its slim pickings round these parts (and by slim pickings I mean fuck all, and by these parts I mean the island of Ireland). The second problem is time, though thats easy enough to deal with. I just cut back on the (monsterous) amount of time Im spending playing WOW. And to be honest after I get Kingslayer Im not hugely pushed on keeping up my bi-weekly raiding.

Once Ive overcome those obstacles I could start playing tomorrow. The one benefit of having no-one to game with is that youve got plenty of time for plot development, even if it is only the odd idea here and there it all adds up. While I’d probably have to quickly refresh myself on some of the rulesets I’d be ready to sit down for character generation and an intro session tomorrow.

So if you are interested in playing in any of the games outlined above or know of someone who is/might be then please drop me a line.
